“I want money for my gifts. This is about owning my worth — getting paid what I’m worth.”

When a client says something like that in our first conversation, I know two things immediately: she is very good at what she does, and somewhere between her gifts and her bank account, there’s a wall. That wall is made of money mindset blocks — and if you’re reading this, you’ve probably met yours.

What money mindset blocks look like in real life

Blocks rarely announce themselves as beliefs. They show up as behavior — reasonable-looking, repeated behavior:

You quote a price and discount it before the client says a word. You over-deliver so heavily that your effective hourly rate would embarrass you. You avoid looking at the numbers for weeks at a time. You have a price increase you’ve been “about to announce” for a year. You feel a flash of guilt every time money arrives easily — as if easy meant undeserved.

Any one of these, occasionally, is human. As a pattern, they’re a system — one running quietly underneath your business, deciding what you’re allowed to receive.

Where the blocks come from

Nobody is born discounting herself. These patterns come down through the family line — the money stories you absorbed before you could evaluate them. Money doesn’t grow on trees. Don’t get too big for your britches. We’re not the kind of people who… Add the cultural messaging women receive about being modest, accommodating, and never “too much,” and you get an accomplished adult with world-class skills and a receiving problem.

Here’s the reframe that changes everything: a money block is not a character flaw. It’s an inherited habit. And habits — even old, deep ones — can be rewired.

How the rewiring actually works

Name the story out loud. Blocks lose most of their power the moment they’re spoken to another person. “I believe wanting more money makes me greedy” sounds absurd said aloud — which is exactly the point.

Collect the evidence against it. Every clean sale, every happy client at full price, every check that arrived without suffering — that’s data against the old story. Most women file it under “luck.” We file it where it belongs.

Act one size bigger than the belief. The raise, the invoice sent without a discount, the number said out loud. The belief updates after the action, not before. That’s why waiting to feel worthy first never works.

Have a witness. This work goes years faster with someone in your corner who catches the block in real time — in the actual price conversation, the actual invoice, the actual moment. That’s much of what I do inside my coaching containers.

What happens when the wall comes down

One client did this work all the way through. Her business grew from a $42,000 month into more than $60,000 a year later — and she’s now planning for the million-dollar mark. Same gifts. Same market. Different beliefs about what she’s allowed to receive.

Another celebrated “the largest check I’ve ever received from a client” — after we cleared the pattern that had kept her checks polite and small.

The gifts were never the problem. The permission was.
