In business, writing and, well, any life goal, I find that we’re more successful when we know our “Big WHY”…
Why do we work as hard as we do at our jobs…Why do we take care of our kids the best we can…Why do we volunteer or participate in the groups that we do?
Often times it comes from something deep inside of us, something that we feel like we want to do for another person…
Maybe it comes from a sense of duty to our families and friends…
It could be a duty to ourselves to seek something better or perhaps it is the inner knowing that we’re meant for more in this life…
However, my big WHY in life and business is different from most I’ve heard…
What fuels my fire in life and business is the fact that my ex-husband told me that I would never amount to anything…
Yes, I was married extremely young. We were married at the age of 19 and I left the toxic relationship at the age of 23.
I’ll never forget the phone call he made to me in the middle of the night, telling me how I would end up alone and would never amount to anything…
The vengeance and hatred in his voice…This person who I had trusted to be my partner in life at one point…
However, from that one phone call, I made it my mission in life to prove him wrong every. single. day.
He left me bankrupt in finances and in spirit, but somehow, I kept moving forward.
Since that time, I’ve focused on every area of my life individually until it was exactly the way I wanted it.
I have him to thank.
During that period of time, I lost my home and my car, and just before I lost my job, I woke up and started pouring all of my energy into it, earning a fantastic promotion and opportunity…
After the promotion, I kept working diligently, dug myself out of debt and made the move to Chicago, a dream I had yearned for since childhood.
In Chicago, I focused my energy on my romantic life and ended up meeting the man of my dreams in Vegas and after two years of doing the long distance thing, I moved to Vermont to be with him and get married.
My ex-husband unknowingly helped me flourish.
I refuse to let him ever be right about who I am and what I’m capable of.
So I’m curious, who or what fuels your fire? What is your “Big WHY” in life, business, hobbies, etc?
I hope it isn’t as dramatic as mine, but I feel it is important that we identify why we want to move forward in life so we can stay focused on what is most important to us.
In addition to your Big WHY, what are your goals? What are you working towards?
I truly would love to hear about them so please drop a line!
Until next week…
